The National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) is a collaborative, not-for-profit (501c6) association formed between automakers and independent aftermarket manufacturers to provide technicians, mechanics, and locksmiths with the credentials needed to access security-related automotive information and systems.
If you’re a technician, locksmith, or repair professional who works with vehicle security systems, it’s important to understand which NASTF account is right for you.
There are 3 main account types to choose from:
1. Free NASTF Membership
- General access to industry news, insights and resources
- No signup cost
2. AIR (Assisted Immobilizer Reprogramming) Account
- Registered technicians can receive assistance from NASTF providers to reprogram parts like ECM, BCM, or PATS.
- No signup cost, however, the first 5 AIR requests each year cost $45. After that, it's free.
3. VSP (Vehicle Security Professional) Account
- Full access credentials to program keys, get codes, or order parts directly from automotive manufacturers
- Requires application process with business documentation.
- Once approved, you’ll get a VSP ID to access vehicle security information
VSP accounts offer three profiles for users:
- Primary Account ($435 for 2 years)
- Able to access and acquire OE vehicle security data as needed.
- Has managerial rights over Admin and Subordinate accounts
- Usually, lead technician responsible for assisting other in-house technicians when needed
- Subordinate Account ($250 for 2 years)
- Able to access and acquire OE vehicle security data as needed.
- Each Subordinate account needs to be aligned with a Primary VSP manager
- Only available to U.S. W2 employees. All Canadian accounts are to be registered as Primary VSPs.
- Usually, assistant or secondary technicians at a shop responsible for servicing vehicles
- Administrative Account (no cost)
- Cannot access OE data but is able to assist with maintaining account profiles and transaction forms
- Usually, business owner or selected office support staff
A business can add multiple primary and subordinate accounts to fit the size of their operation. However, each company must begin with at least one Primary account holder to receive programming.
Once you have decided which account matches your needs, navigate to www.nastf.org and click the “Joining NASTF” link to begin your registration.
